Choose the interface before the headline speed
USB-C describes the connector, not the transfer speed. Check your computer’s USB specification and use a suitable cable. Manufacturer speed ratings describe peak conditions; large files, small files, heat and available space can produce different results.

Best for: A larger library of photos, videos and project files on the same T7 interface.
Keep in mind: More capacity does not change the need for a backup. Compare the live 2TB total with the live 1TB total only to decide whether you need the extra space — a higher 2TB price is expected and is not a reason to skip the family.

Best for: The same T7-class speed with a protective enclosure, if the live field is not above the plain T7 1TB.
Keep in mind: A rugged enclosure does not replace a second copy of your files. If the Shield’s live price is at or above the T7 1TB field, skip the Shield listing and buy the plain T7 unless you specifically need the enclosure.

Best for: Basic file transfers only when the live T5 field is below the live T7 1TB field. Samsung rates the T5 for up to 540MB/s, a lower ceiling than the T7.
Keep in mind: If the T5 listing is at or above the T7 1TB price — as it has been on recent loads of this page — skip this offer. An older, slower drive is not a value pick at a higher displayed price. Compare seller and warranty on the selected offer if a cheaper T5 field ever returns.

Check the model, capacity, seller, warranty and return terms on the selected offer. Allow room for future files and keep important data on another independent drive or backup service. A portable SSD should not be your only copy.
