The short version
- TechEngage uses only a few cookies: one for security, two for Google Analytics, one to localize Amazon store links, and login cookies for our own staff.
- We do not use advertising or social media tracking cookies.
- Retailers such as Amazon may set their own cookies on their websites after you click an affiliate link.
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser at any time, and opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s add-on.
This Cookies Policy explains which cookies and similar technologies techengage.com uses, why, and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal information more broadly.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. They let a site recognize your browser between page views or visits. Cookies set by the site you are visiting are first-party cookies. Cookies set by another company’s domain are third-party cookies. Similar technologies include local storage and scripts that read information from your browser.
2. Cookies we use
The table below lists the cookies we found on TechEngage pages. Durations are the maximum; you can delete any cookie sooner.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
__cf_bm | Cloudflare (on techengage.com) | Distinguishes people from automated bots to protect the site from attacks and abuse. It does not identify you. | Strictly necessary | 30 minutes |
_ga | Google Analytics (on techengage.com) | Assigns a random identifier so Google Analytics can count unique visitors and sessions. | Analytics | 2 years |
_ga_KWD0EHTW59 | Google Analytics (on techengage.com) | Keeps track of the current session for our Google Analytics property. | Analytics | 2 years |
aawp-country | TechEngage (affiliate plugin) | Stores your two-letter country code, looked up from a truncated, pseudonymous version of your IP address (not anonymous), so Amazon product links point to your local store. | Functional | 30 days |
wordpress_logged_in_*, wordpress_sec_*, wordpress_test_cookie, wp-settings-* | TechEngage (WordPress) | Keep staff and contributors signed in and remember their dashboard preferences. Readers who do not log in do not receive these. | Strictly necessary | Session, up to 14 days for login cookies with “Remember me,” and 1 year for dashboard settings |
We do not set WordPress comment cookies to remember your name and email after you comment. We will update this table if we add or remove cookies.
3. Similar technologies
- Google Analytics script: the Google Analytics tag is served from our own domain and sends measurement data to Google, which uses the cookies above.
- Akismet: when a comment form is on the page, Akismet’s script records basic interaction timing in hidden form fields to help detect spam. It does not set cookies.
- Gravatar images: profile images next to comments load from Gravatar’s servers, which receive your IP address and browser information when the images load.
4. Cookies from sites you visit through our links
When you click an affiliate link, for example to Amazon, the retailer may set cookies on its own website to credit TechEngage for a qualifying purchase. The same applies when you follow links to social networks or other websites. Those cookies are controlled by the other website and covered by its own policies. Learn more in our Affiliate Disclosure.
5. How to manage cookies
You can block, allow or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may affect how the site loads or how staff sign in.
- Chrome: Settings, then Privacy and security, then Third-party cookies or Site data.
- Firefox: Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Cookies and Site Data.
- Safari: Settings, then Privacy, then Manage Website Data.
- Edge: Settings, then Cookies and site permissions, then Manage and delete cookies and site data.
To stop Google Analytics from measuring your visits on every site that uses it, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Because we do not use advertising cookies, there are no ad personalization settings to change on TechEngage.
6. Your rights
If you are in the EEA or the UK, see our GDPR Compliance page for your data protection rights. U.S. state privacy rights are described in the Privacy Policy.
7. Changes to this policy
We review this policy when we add, remove or change services on the site. The date at the top shows the latest revision.

Your Google Analytics choice
Google Analytics is optional. Use the Privacy choices button to allow it or continue without it. Your choice is stored in this browser for up to 180 days. You can change it at any time; withdrawing permission stops future Google Analytics loading and removes matching analytics cookies accessible to this site. Browser blocking or Global Privacy Control can prevent analytics. Essential login, security and form functions remain available. Separate first-party activity counters used by the Launchpad workspace are not Google Analytics.
