Apple has begun shipping its 2026 platform updates, putting Siri AI — a rebuilt, conversational assistant powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence — into users’ hands starting September 14, 2026. The company says the rollouts span iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27, with Siri AI as the centerpiece on every platform except Apple TV.

Ars Technica reports that Apple Intelligence for this generation is driven largely by Apple’s AFM 3 model family — including on-device AFM 3 Core (about 3 billion parameters) and AFM 3 Core Advanced (a sparse ~20-billion-parameter model that activates fewer parameters per request), plus cloud models for heavier work. That matches Apple’s long-running Private Cloud Compute pitch: keep more inference on device when possible, and route the rest through Apple’s cloud stack rather than a generic third-party chat box.

Beyond the assistant: Golden Gate, Liquid Glass, and Rosetta

The OS releases are not AI-only. Apple and independent coverage highlight a readability-focused polish pass on last year’s Liquid Glass design, including a slider that lets users push the look from ultra-clear toward fully tinted. Parental-control upgrades — Ask to Browse in Safari, expanded Communication Safety, Time Allowances, and schedules — are also part of the same software drop.

On the Mac side, MacRumors confirms macOS Golden Gate is Apple silicon–only. Ars Technica adds a sharper compatibility note: Golden Gate is the last macOS release to support Rosetta for Intel apps, with a carve-out called out for older Intel-era games. After this cycle, unmaintained Intel Mac apps face a harder cliff.

Device support and regional caveats

Availability still depends on hardware and region. Ars Technica says iOS 27 installs on iPhone 11 and later, but Siri AI needs an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 / later class device. Apple’s security releases page lists iOS/iPadOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate 27 with a September 14, 2026 publish date, aligning the software is the current production line.

Separately, Apple has already said Siri AI on iOS and iPadOS in the EU is delayed because of Digital Markets Act disagreements — while macOS and visionOS in the EU were expected to get the feature. That regional split remains an important practical caveat for European iPhone and iPad users even as the global English beta opens elsewhere.
