NVIDIA announced the Quadro RTX 4000 Graphics card, which is a total performance beast. But be prepared to empty your pockets. The estimated market price is a whopping $900. It was unveiled at the annual Autodesk University Conference in Las Vegas.
It is the company’s first professional-level graphics card based on the NVIDIA RTX platform and NVIDIA Turing architecture. It will allow the feature of ray tracing to be made available to more developers, graphic designers, and artists. This might be one of the most special aspects of the graphics card.
The launch of Turing architecture is a massive advancement in computing as it allowed so much more powerful capabilities. Turing features new RT Cores to fasten ray tracing and next-generation Tensor Cores for AI inferencing.
What this mumbo jumbo means is that when these features are combined, they will enable real-time ray tracing possible for the first time. Ray tracing is an image tracing technique that produces the image by tracing a path of light and how it reacts to objects pixel by pixel.
Other benefits are that the graphics processor is power-efficient and slim enough to fit into most PCs’ graphics card slot. It is also powerful enough to provide enough memory for Virtual Reality applications.
Some key features of the graphics card include 8GB of ultra-fast GDDR6 graphics memory. This technology provides over forty percent more memory bandwidth channel than the last generation’s Quadro P4000 graphics card.
The graphics card has 36 RT cores that allow real-time ray tracing of virtual objects and physical spaces. This enables more realistic scenery to be recreated, including shadows, reflections, refractions, and global illumination.
This graphics card can do way more than just run Overwatch in 1000 frames per second. Quadro RTX 4000 can be used in neural network training applications. This feature is useful when working with tasks that involve Artificial Intelligence.
Quadro offers support for a feature known as VirtualLink. This is a new open industry standard that can handle the power, display, and bandwidth needs of next-generation VR headsets through a single USB-C connector.
Streamers and video editors will greatly appreciate this next feature. RTX 4000 has built-in support for many encoding and decoding engines. This feature enables the development and fastens the playback of multiple video streams with up to 8K resolutions.
