Not just this, it is the first LG V series smartphone to have a notched display.
Also, V40 is the first phone in the world that lets you take an ultra wide-angle shot or zoom in. The third camera is specifically for this purpose. The three lenses include ultra wide lens 107°, the main lens 78°, and telephoto lens 45°. The phone is capable to cover 3x worth of optical zoom.

Like the rest of the flagship devices of 2018, the phone has Snapdragon 845.

Let’s discuss more details.

Display and Design:

The design of LG devices is almost identical with rounded edges and horizontal camera arrays. The V40 has an edge to edge display with a small notch in which there are two cameras. Small notch means you have more space for notifications. They’ve also minimized the chin of the device to increase the screen to body ratio.

The weight of LG V40 is around 169 grams with IP68 rated water and dust resistance for up to 1.5m for 30 minutes.

The phone’s body also protected by MIL-STD-810G compliant for the rough and tough protection.

Due to minimizing the chin of the phone, the fingerprint sensor is on the back. There’s also a dedicated button for Google Assistant and gladly, LG decided to keep the smartphone with 3.5mm jack compatible with 32-bit QuadDAC audio. Not just this, LG V40 has a single Boom Box speaker, with enhanced bass and DTS X 3D surround sound.

The display of V40 is P-OLED with 6.4-inches screen. The aspect ratio is 19.5:9. The screen has the resolution of 1440 x 3120 pixels (Quad HD+) with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection for scratches.

Hardware & Storage:

The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with 6GB of RAM. The phone looks promising with heavy use.

For some reasons, LG decided to stick with 64 GB storage. No RAM or storage variant available for V40. It does, however, has a dedicated microSD slot to expand the storage for up to 512 GB.

Camera & Software:

The key selling point of V40 is its five cameras. V40 has a triple camera on the back with 12 MP main shooter, secondary 12 MP is a telephoto lens, and the third camera is 16 MP wide-angle lens.

The main camera is 3-axis OIS, PDAF, and laser autofocus as well. The telephoto lens (secondary lens) provides 3x optical zoom and the third lens of 16 MP wide-angle camera which is similar to what we found in LG’s G7 takes shots with a large field of view and can get as high as 107-degrees.

The phone is capable to record 4K videos at the rate of 60 fps (Frames per Second). There’s also an option to record 1080p recordings at 240 fps for slow motion. Almost all the smartphone in 20188 focuses on AI engine and LG V40 is no exception. The AI feature will guide you to take better shots.

Another feature which we already informed you is their Cine Shot Camera Mode. It allows you to take photos through all three cameras and make a gif image. Here’s an example of this mode:

V40 has an 8 MP f/1.9 main shooter and a secondary 5 MP f/2.4 camera. These two lenses are sure to give you some great quality selfies through features like studio lighting, dark background or portrait modes.

AI detection also works well on the front camera. The phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with UX 7.0+ on top.

Battery, Price, & Availability:

This is LG’s first device to support fast wireless charging. The phone has a 3300 mAh battery which is slightly smaller than the other flagships. The phone also supports Quick Charge 3.0 and having a Qualcomm

Snapdragon 845 we could expect Quick Charge 4.0 later in future through USB-C.

In colors, we’ll get Moroccan Blue and Aurora Black.

The phone will be on shelves from October 18 with the price tag of $900 depending on the carrier.
