Even though the prime of streaming services has come to an end, Netflix is still ruling as the #1 streaming service in most areas of the world. With millions of subscribers, Netflix has invested in a lot of content and user experience and keeps improving each day. It is no doubt, an essential subscription for movie buffs.
Today, we’ll be sharing a few Netflix tips and tricks that subscribers should know to make the streaming experience even better.
2024‘s latest Netflix tips and tricks:
1. Create multiple profiles
If you are sharing a Netflix account with your siblings, family members, friends, or partners, and haven’t created multiple profiles for each, I assume your watch history is already a nightmare.
Multiple people using the same profile can lead to strange suggestions by the Netflix algorithm and unwanted movies in your watchlist.
It’s water under the bridge now, so let’s not dwell on it. From now onwards, you can create a Netflix profile by following these steps:
- Click your profile picture from the top right corner of the web page
- Navigate to “Manage Profiles page”
- Select “Add Profile”
- Name the profile
- Select Continue or Save
After you’re done creating a profile for yourself (and others), you can ask them to use theirs and stop meddling with your profiles. If they still do, here comes the second Netflix tip.
2. Lock Profiles
I know some friends/siblings won’t stop peeking into your watch list or profile even after you’ve asked them not to. You can’t even kick them out because you love them. But what’s the best way to tackle this?
To make them stop snooping even after you have created a separate profile on Netflix for them, you can protect your profile with a PIN. Yes, a PIN that’ll save you from anyone poking into your watchlist. I’ve compiled a guide to lock your Netflix profile, feel free to check it out. Here’s how it looks after enabling PIN protection:
There’s one drawback though, it keeps locking you out even if you’re logged into your device, asking for your PIN every time you open the app.
*If someone from Netflix is reading this or has sources, please let the team know it’s annoying.*
I should be able to STAY LOGGED into my profile.
3. Personalize Account
Netflix has made things fun. You don’t have to put a broody pic up there, instead, try using custom Avatars on Netflix profiles. This way, you can customize your arena the way you want. Netflix has a set of amazing Avatars from your favorite Netflix movies, like the one I put up there from The Witcher (sadly, Henry Cavill won’t be returning).
4. Add movies/shows to a watchlist
A watchlist on Netflix is a lifesaver. Netflix has a LOT of content, which I honestly don’t think everyone can keep track of. However, this feature, lets you add your favorite movies and shows to a list so that you can watch them later. If you’re in a rush and want to watch a movie or a show later, just press that round + button near a movie title, and watch it later.
The list is connected to your profile, and if it is locked, only you will be able to see what’s on your watchlist.
5. Manage ‘Continue watching’ carousel
Did you know you can manage the ‘Continue watching’ carousel on Netflix? I wish I knew it earlier, but sharing it with you so that you can remove the unwanted movies/shows from the list. Here’s how to do it.
Hover over your name after “Continue watching for [name]” and click “Explore All.” This screen will appear:
Do you see that cross right after like button? It’ll remove that particular movie/show from the continue-watching list.
6. Download movies and shows
If you’re on a flight or away from the internet, Netflix got you covered. You can download Netflix movies and shows right on your device and watch them later.
All you need is a pair of headphones and a quiet place with your favorite downloaded media. You don’t need an active internet connection to watch them after downloading them; however, you might need a device with a large battery if you’re planning on a binge night.
Also remember, Netflix is one of the battery draining apps.
7. Master keyboard shortcuts in Netflix
This is for the nerds. It makes life easy. So, these are the keyboard shortcuts that can make your Netflix experience so much better.
