After rolling out the Android 9 Pie-based HydrogenOS public beta on OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users in China, the company is now rolling out Android 9 Pie-Based OxygenOS Open Beta 22 and Android 9 Pie-based OxygenOS Open Beta 20 to OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users.

This new beta update has a lot more to offer than the previous ones. It comes with new DND (Do regulate Disturb), better UI, and navigation gestures for the OnePlus 5T along with the support for parallel apps. OnePlus promised that it would keep on rolling out software updates for two years and security updates for three years on OnePlus 5 and 5T. Keeping up with its promise, OnePlus has rolled out its first software update since the software was first released.

According to OnePlus a huge number of users of OnePlus 6 OxygenOS have already upgraded to the Android 9.0 Pie update. This new update is just going to make things a lot better for the users. The update includes:

New UI

For better user experience, the software has updated to a better User Interface. This new UI is a bounty of the very Android Pie which is already rolling on the OnePlus 6. The latest company flagship, OnePlus 6T shipped with the Android Pie, so its a treat for OnePlus 6, 5 and 5T users to get their hands on the latest UI.

Updated Weather application

The company has introduced its improved weather application that has more accurate weather data and more accurate positioning. A lot of bugs of this application have been fixed with this update such as an issue that prevented the refresh rate of the application over location change. Also, the issue of users not being able to find locations has been fixed. The search feature of the application has also been improvised in this update.

Support for Parallel Applications

With this latest update, the company has added support for Telegram, IMO, Ola, Uber, Discord and many other parallel applications. With this feature, users can now install Dual WhatsApp and duplicates of other apps on their OnePlus phones easily.

Do not Disturb Mode

The update offers a new ‘Do Not Disturb mode’ that allows the user to handle the emergency rescue, speed dial and calling interface. DND mode also lets you manage your sleep time; it comes handy when you want to take a break from numerous notifications. It is also a great feature to regulate and limit screen time and focusing on things that are important.

Assign SIM to contacts

The new feature allows the user to assign a specific SIM to specific contacts in the phone. This would allow users to keep data general in the phone contacts and then relate it to SIMs in case the user is using dual SIMs on the phone.

Updated Android Security Patch

The update has the new Android security patch 2018.11 with two security patch levels. This two security patch level gives the Android devices the flexibility to fix the vulnerabilities.

New Navigation Gestures

The software update comes with the new and improved navigation gestures. However, these navigation gestures are only available on the OnePlus 5T devices.

With the next OnePlus phone in the pipeline that is said to come with Snapdragon 855, we are excited to see how Oxygen OS gets improved with time.

The update is rolling out already. Let us know what you think in the comments section below!
