The boards of Volkswagen and Audi have finally reached “an agreement with Rupert Stadler on the termination” of his employment.
For those of you who don’t know, Department of Justice, on the behalf of Environmental Protection Agency filed a lawsuit against the Germany automobile company for violating the Clean Air Act. The company is proven to have rigged about 11 million of its diesel cars to deceive the emission standards. Arrested in June, Stadler has finally been relieved from his position as the CEO of the company.
Here is the complete statement:
“Mr. Stadler is leaving the companies with immediate effect and will no longer work for the Volkswagen Group. Mr. Stadler is doing so because, due to his ongoing pre-trial detention, he is unable to fulfill his duties as a member of the board of management and wishes to concentrate on his defense. The contractual execution depends on the course and outcome of the criminal proceedings.”
The board further stated:
“Due to his ongoing pretrial detention, he is unable to fulfill his duties as a member of the board of management and wishes to concentrate on his defense”.
This is not the first time any automobile company has tried to bypass the system. Back in 2014, the automobile giant, Tesla tried to buy its way out of the environmental regulations.
Just when the entire global community is working together to fight air pollution and the horrors of global warming, such instances can prove to be a havoc for the society as a whole. We sincerely hope that the culprits who try to surpass laws are made to pay the price at all costs.
